On May 30, a grand Moutai tasting event was held at the beautiful five-star SAXON HOTEL in Johannesburg, South Africa. This event brought together many Moutai lovers and industry experts, aiming to allow more people to gain a deeper understanding of the unique charm of Moutai and experience the profoundness of Chinese liquor culture.

The atmosphere at the event was elegant and exciting. The interior of the venue was decorated in an antique style, as if traveling back to an ancient wine shop. Exquisite Moutai bottles and tasting utensils were placed on the table, showing the organizer’s dedication and attention to the event.

At the beginning of the tasting session, Ms. Nanfei Liu, the marketing director of TEC-TURBO, the South African distributor of Kweichow Moutai, first introduced the history and cultural background of Moutai to the guests, allowing them to have a deeper understanding of this sauce-flavored liquor. Ms. Liu also introduced Kweichow Moutai Company to the guests and explained in detail the methods and techniques of tasting Moutai. From observing the color, smelling the aroma, tasting to aftertaste, every step was full of knowledge and fun.

During the tasting session, participants picked up their glasses and carefully savoured the unique flavor of Moutai. The rich aroma, mellow taste, and long aftertaste made people intoxicated and reluctant to leave. Everyone said that through this tasting session, they had a deeper understanding of the quality and characteristics of Moutai, the Chinese liquor culture, and Chinese culture.

On the 16th of April 2024, the inaugural recruitment conference for Chinese-funded enterprises in South Africa was held at the Gallagher Convention Center in Midrand, Johannesburg. With the support of the Chinese Embassy and various South African enterprises over 2,800 job seekers attended this recruitment event organized by the South Africa-China Economic and Trade Association (SACETA). 

Minister of social Development, Lindiwe Zulu, delivered speeches thanking China for their willingness to strengthen exchanges and cooperation in the field of economic and trade development between the two countries.

South Africa Moutai Distributor, Tec-Turbo Import and Export Trading CC, returned to HOSTEX since its first appearance in 2022. The TEC team exhibited for three days to share the magic of Moutai. Visitors experienced superb tastings, traditional snacks and participated in social media contests.

China’s Kweichow Moutai has undoubtedly become a shining star in South Africa, illuminating a different kind of brilliance on the African continent with its unique charm and timeless recipe.

On February 3, 2024, the event “Spring Stars Shining Together across the World – Year of Dragon” was held at Victoria Harbor in Cape Town. Consul General You extended New Year greetings to guests saying that the Chinese Spring Festival is becoming a statutory holiday of the United Nations is an important symbol of Chinese culture going global.

The event site was decorated with lights and colourful decorations, the atmosphere was warm, and the atmosphere of the event was rich with Chinese culture. The performances were brilliant, showcasing dragon and lion dance, Shaolin martial arts, and other performances winning bursts of cheers and applause from the audience.

Amongst the showstopping performances was a Moutai fashion walk. South African models wore traditional Miao dresses as a symbol of cross-cultural exchange. Kweichow Moutai baijiu is only produced in the Guizhou province, which is home to the ethnic group, Miao. The audience admired the intricately embroidered pleated skirts and beauty of the Moutai culture. The models glittered as they paraded Moutai products on stage. Miao women are also famed for the glittering silver adornments that they wear during festival time. The Miao people believe silver symbolizes light and good health, so wearing silver will ward off evil spirits, stave off natural disasters and bring good fortune.

A typical festival outfit worn by a Miao woman will include a hat or crown, horns, a comb, earrings or ear pendant, a neckband, a necklace, a collar, bracelets, and rings, all made of silver. Most of these will have been handmade by Miao silversmiths. The decorations are typically in four styles: symmetrical style, balanced style, connected style and radiating style. They usually feature patterns involving dragons, phoenixes, flowers, and birds.

On January 29, the Chinese Embassy in South Africa grandly held the 2024 “Welcome the Spring Festival and Celebrate the Year of China” celebration in Times Square, the administrative capital, Pretoria. Mr. Chen Xiaodong, Ambassador to South Africa, Ms. Delilai, Minister of Tourism of South Africa, and Mr. Xie Shengwen, Ambassador of South Africa to China attended and delivered speeches. More than 800 people from all walks of life in South Africa, Chinese-funded institutions in South Africa, and representatives of overseas Chinese gathered together.

The Spring Festival belongs to China and the world. On December 22, 2023, the 78th United Nations General Assembly unanimously adopted a resolution to designate the Spring Festival (Lunar New Year) as a United Nations holiday. The upcoming Spring Festival in the Year of the Dragon will be the first United Nations national holiday. “Spring Festival Internationalisation”, Chinese culture attracts global attention.

 

On the same day, booths were also set up at the event to showcase Chinese culture, including calligraphy, paper-cutting art, tea ceremony, painting, Chinese national costumes and other Chinese cultural booths, allowing guests to understand the traditional culture of the Chinese Spring Festival. A Miao girl dressed in traditional Miao costume introduced the evolution history and brewing process of Moutai to the guests in Chinese and English. The bartender specially designed two cocktails based on Moutai liquor and different drinks for the guests to taste for the “Happy Spring Festival” event. Ms. Delilay, Minister of Tourism of South Africa, and Mr. Xie Shengwen, South Africa’s Ambassador to China, praised the Kweichow Moutai booth for its multiple cultural displays of Chinese liquor culture, Chinese ethnic minority traditional clothing culture, and Western cocktail culture. The guests felt the “MEI” life in the “MEI” power of fine wine and the aroma of fine wine. Telling Chinese stories well and spreading China’s excellent traditional culture are endlessly beautiful.
